The ancient Hebrews lived as slaves for over 400 years in Egypt during the era of the pharaohs. At the appointed time, possibly around 1275 B.C., God led Moses into Egypt to deliver His people from their collective bondage. However, Ramses II refused to permit the Hebrews to leave. But, God eventually sent ten plagues that made the pharaoh change his mind. According to chapters seven through eleven of the Book of Exodus in the Bible, the ten plagues or judgements were:
Water turned into blood
Frogs throughout the land
Lice on man and beast
Flies throughout the land
Cattle died throughout the land
Boils on man and beast
Hail on man and beast
Locusts throughout the land
Darkness throughout the land
Death of the firstborn throughout the land
However, despite the first nine plagues from God, Ramses II still would not let God’s people leave Egypt. But, when God permitted the firstborn of each Egyptian family and the firstborn of all their animals to die, Ramses II finally gave the Hebrews permission to leave Egypt.
Approximately 1300 years after the Hebrews were set free from their collective bondage, God sent His Only Begotten Son to die on a cruel Roman cross. Jesus died for the individual bondage that each man had been placed under as a result of the Fall of Man in the Garden of Eden. However, over 2000 years later, much of God’s creation is still bound to sin because they have not accepted the cure given by God, which is the death and resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ. But, God has not given up on His divine desire to save all mankind. He still does things to get people’s attention, just like He did with the ancient Hebrews and their Egyptian captors.
In America today, it is extremely possible that God is once again attempting to get His wayward children’s attention. But, as happened in ancient Egypt, His methods are not always acceptable to those who have rebelled against Him. However, since God still wants to liberate His children from their spiritual darkness, He uses many attention-getting tactics to achieve His goal. In fact, it appears that God might be using some judgements on America today that are similar in purpose to the ten plagues used during the days of the pharaohs in Egypt. The probable plagues on America are:
The high cost of crude oil is causing gasoline prices to skyrocket. Therefore, Americans are having to spend more money on gasoline and less money on more important items, such as food, clothes, and shelter.
The price of food items are escalating. Low supplies of corn and wheat are causing food shortages. Consumers are having to cut back on quality and quantity.
Homosexuality has become a dominant force in the social, political and religious areas of the American society. It has become an acceptable alternative lifestyle and sexual orientation. However, as a result of the homosexual lifestyle, many people have died at young ages because they contacted the AIDS virus. Could AIDS be a curse from God?
Too many murders are taking place in America on a regular basis. However, sad to say, many of these murders are happening within the family setting. In fact, within the past few months, parents have been responsible for the murderous deaths of their small, defenseless children.
Natural disasters are occurring more regularly than they have in recent years. These natural disasters have destroyed more property and more lives than in the past, too. Also, droughts are becoming more prevalent in the United States.
Terrorism has become a dominant fixture in the way of life in America and in other nations around the world. As a result, American service men and women are fighting an ongoing battle against terrorist activities in Iraq, Afghanistan, and possibly many other nations in the future. Of course, with terrorism, it is not easy to know who the enemy really is. Therefore, the enemy most likely will never be defeated.
Homelessness is on the rise due to increased unemployment, lower wages and salaries, and poor mortgage investments. Of course, this means that more and more people will drop out of the middle class and spiral downward to the lower class. As a result, the American Dream might just be a thing of the past.
America’s public education system is in the process of a serious meltdown. America is no longer at the top of the educational ladder. Instead, it is grasping for its educational breath. Also, it’s amazing how far downward American schools have digressed since God was asked to leave in the early 1960s.
Abortion might just be the main rationale for America’s current social, economic, political and spiritual crisis. A nation that murders newborn babies cannot expect to be championed and blessed by God. However, such a nation can expect their society to collapse right in front of their eyes. America, please open your eyes now! See the consequences for the murder of newborn babies. If God desires, He can destroy a nation from withing much quicker than a foreign nation can destroy a nation from without. Since many of the judges in America favor abortion, God might have to use His supernatural powers to end the premature death of unwanted babies. What if God sent His death angel to take the life of the oldest child of every family in America? If God did it once, like He did in ancient Egypt, He could very well do it again.
Global warming has become a major topic of discussion in America and around the world. Many environmentalists and some scientists actually believe that global warming is a real environmental problem. They believe that the increase in the earth’s temperature is caused by man’s destruction of his environment. However, if global warming does exist, there is the distinct possibility that it could be viewed as a plague from God, especially since He created the earth and He still has everything under control. Basically, it could be God’s method of getting a disobedient nation to come back to Him. If the temperature continues to go higher and higher, eventually people will begin to die in extremely large numbers, especially the young and the old. Of course, a loving God would not allow this tragedy to happen. But, Americans must remember that God is not a respecter of persons.
The ten plagues that occurred during ancient times in Egypt and the ten possible plagues that are occurring during modern times are not similar in nature, but they are similar in outcome. They are causing serious problems for the United States. They are causing post-modern lifestyles to come to a halt. However, if they are successful, the plagues could bring America to its knees again for the purpose of asking God for forgiveness. Then and only then would America have the opportunity to regain the glory and power it once held as the number one nation in the world.
However, if America hardens its heart like the pharaoh did during the time of Moses, the outcome could be disastrous. Of course, when a country has serious problems and cannot explain the rationale for the problems, a scapegoat must be found. However, sad to say, all problems today in America have been blamed on Christians and their Biblical beliefs. As a result, Christians should expect even more persecution in the months and years to come. Most likely, some Christian persecution might just be severe in nature. In fact, if the presidential candidate who favors anti-Christian legislation (hate crime and hate speech laws) is put in the Oval Office in November, severe persecution may begin sooner than most Christians would like to believe.
Therefore, it is very important that all Christians cast their vote in November for the candidate that would not add to the persecution that Christians are already beginning to face in America. But, it is amazing that in a nation founded on Judeo-Christian principles that it has become politically correct to persecute peace-loving Christians. It seems more logical that if America does forget its freedom of religion roots that it would persecute one of America’s minority religions instead of Christianity, the largest and most dominant religion. Evidently, God will even use the persecution of His faithful believers to bring America back to its senses.
Whether the problems in America are plagues or not, God is still in control. The revisiting of the ten plagues of ancient Biblical times makes it easier to understand the reasons why America is in the mess that it is in today. All the possible plagues that have been mentioned could become even worse as days, months and years pass. But, one thing is for sure, if America does not repent as a nation, God will send some form of punishment. God will not be continually mocked by sinful Americans who rebel against Him. As a result, God’s love will change to God’s justice. It is very possible that God is in the “justice” stage now. However, if America returns to the God of its Founding Fathers, it would be spared from the plagues that have possibly been sent from God to get the attention of a backsliding nation. Therefore, it is time for all Americans to return to the savior of all mankind, the Lord Jesus Christ.
